We are back in business with our I touch. Our traveling companion’s son,Brian, fixed it. He has been living and working on an olive farm in Sardinia, Italy and has been traveling with us since Florence. He simply held both buttons down at the same time on our I Touch, waited several seconds, and it reloaded. Magnificent. He also taught me how to post photos so I will give that a try as well. By the time we get back home I should have this pretty well figured out.
Cinque Terre is a most wondrous place…an engineering marvel. One thousand years ago people started farming here and built these intricate terraces that are vineyards as well as gardens. It is now very expensive for people to live here. 500,000 for a home. 1,700 a month for rent. And they only make money 8 months of the year since no tourists come in the winter. Hard to find a mate in these parts for the young-uns!
We took the boat to most towns today and will hike tomorrow.
We ate at a Rick Steves recommended Tratoria for dinner. I told the local – non English speaking – waiter to bring me the fresh “catch of the day”, but he brought me breaded anchovies which I could not eat. When he came around to see how I liked them I had to tell him I was “senza glutine” and would eat some of Peter’s roasted Anchovies instead. A few minutes later he appeared with a platter containing an entire grilled fish, head still on, stuffed with whole garlic cloves and rosemary. His broken English said ” Best Fish”. It was divine… Almost with the taste of lobster. Best meal I’ve had in Italy so far. We were so full and contemplating if we had room for dessert when he showed up again with 5 long slim black wrapped packages. Our mouths were watering as we all anticipated fabulous dark chocolate bars to top off a wonderful meal. Simultaneously ripping open our chocolate wrappers only revealed wet wipes in ” 100% cotone”. Pretty inedible. Tiramisu followed.
